The delicious smell of Kathy’s mother’s home cook meal could be smelled all around the house.
“Ah. It’s so nice to be home.” Keith said as he sat down.
Their mother, Samantha, smiled. She was so happy that her son finally came home to visit. She cooked all of Keith’s favorite dishes. She knows how much he misses her cooking. Their father, Matthew, is always busy with his work. He is a very well- known lawyer. He has worked with politicians and even celebrities. Even with his busy schedule he always finds time to be with his family most of the time. Samantha owns a day-care center in town, she loves kids. She always wishes that her children will never grow up and eventually leave home.
“I miss your cooking so much!” Keith said.
“Aww, sweetie, you should come home more often.” Samantha replied.
“Oh I will, I have to keep a look out for my little sister.” He said while stuffing food in his mouth.
His father looked at him, “Why is that so?” he said.
“Oh, there’s this guy who just asked for her number this afternoon and there was a lot of girls surrounding him when he was outside the restaurant.”
Kathy kicked her brother’s foot under the table and gave him a mean look.
“Ouch!”
“What’s going on? Is this true Kathy?” her father asked her. She knows the rules perfectly. No going on dates unless the boy is already introduced to the family.
“Well I…” She was trying to find a way to explain it to her father.
“See dad, I don’t have to introduce him to you.”
“Why is that so?” her father started looking furious.
She quickly continued “You’ve seen him before, I have a picture of him in my room, and well it’s more like a poster.” She smiled.
“Aww, sweetie, is it really him?” Her mom asked with excitement.
“Who is he?” her father was still very confused.
“Don’t worry dad, I’ll introduce him to you when he does actually ask me out.”
“I don’t think he’ll ask me out anyway, cuz I know he’s more into hot blonds rather than an ordinary half Asian girl.” She said as she played around with her mashed potatoes.”
“Kathy, don’t think that way. You’re a very beautiful girl. I am so thankful to have you as my baby girl.” Her mom comforted her.
“Who knows, maybe he realized a new beauty that he has never come across before.” She continued.
“Mom, you always knows how to cheer me up,” she smiled and got up and went to give her mom a hug.
“Okay, so I have nothing to worry about, that good. I don’t want any boys going out with my baby girl.” Her father commented.
“Don’t worry dad, I’ll deal with any guys who dares come close to her.” Keith said, while acting like a knight who is ordered to protect the princess.
“That’s my boy!” He patted Keith’s shoulder.
“Why do you guys have to so over protective over me, you know, I’m not a little girl anymore, I’m already 18.” Kathy complained.
“Well you’re still the baby of the house, so we have the right to protect you.” Keith explained.
“uggh.” Kathy couldn’t stand being too over protected by her brother and her father.
The table was vibrating, and Samantha started freaking out. “Oh no, an earthquake. Quick, take cover!”
“No mom, it’s fine, it’s just my phone.” She quickly calmed her mom down. Her mom laughed at herself.
They all started laughing.
“Kathy no phone on the table during dinner.” Her dad reminded her.
“Yeah, sorry dad. Just let me answer it for a while.”
She quickly got her phone and answered it without seeing the caller ID.
“Hello” she said
“Hey.” She was surprised to hear the voice on the other end of the line.
“Glad you picked up.” Ryan said. “I thought you were not gonna pick up.”
“Oh, sorry about that.” She wanted to explain but though it would be a very complicated explanation.
“Nah, it’s okay. I just wanted to tell you, I was very glad to see you this afternoon and hope you’ll be free this Saturday. Sorry it can be earlier, I have to fly off to Spain tomorrow for a skate video.”
“Oh “She was thinking in her mind if she should just say yea, but she’s afraid he would think that she’s just desperate to go out with him. Then again she thought about it, it was him who called and asked her out, so it would be fine.
“Yeah, I’ll be free this Saturday. I’ll text you my address later.”
“Great, I‘ll see you then.”
“Okay, see you. Oh yeah have a safe trip.”
“Thanks, good night. Bye” Kathy could hear him smile.
“Bye.” She put down her phone and smiled. She is still trying to process the whole thing in her mind. Ryan Sheckler just asked her out.
“Who was that sweetie?” her mother asked.
“Was that a boy?” her father asked.
“Oh, I know who it is.” Keith said “Wait who was that?” he asked.
Kathy didn’t answered them, she was too happy to even answer, it’s like she blocked out everything. She just continued eating with a smile and stayed silent.
